The Future of Citrix and Google Cloud
When Citrix announced its expanded partnership with Google Cloud and its intention to develop personalized, secure, and dependable hybrid work solutions for their shared clients, it seemed like it had just happened. Now that a full (and busy!) year has passed, Citrix was delighted to share what they have delivered and even more developments planned for the relationship at Google Cloud Next ’22.
An Overview of How Citrix DaaS for Google Cloud Speeds Up Hybrid Work
It could have been simple to overlook some of the amazing advancements they’ve made with the Citrix DaaS solutions and Google Cloud given the abundance of releases of purpose-built products and features over the past year. Here is a list of everything they published this year:
- A new, U.S.-based Citrix control plane hosted on Google Cloud
- Two new Citrix DaaS editions for Google Cloud, available in the Marketplace
- Citrix DaaS Premium for Google Cloud: This offering offers quick migration and provisioning tools, streamlined management of Google Cloud and/or on-premises resources, advanced security capabilities like App Protection and Adaptive Authentication, exceptional monitoring, and cloud optimizations for organizations with existing VDI investments looking to modernize their deployments.
- Citrix DaaS Standard for Google Cloud: This product offers an affordable yet complete hybrid-work solution for fast and simply offering secure virtual apps and desktops to enterprises or departments who are newer to DaaS or VDI.
- New on-premises to Google Cloud migration tools and features
- PVS for Google Cloud
- Image Portability Service for Google Cloud
- Hybrid rights for TTU customers to support Citrix licenses for on-premises use with Google Cloud workloads.
- Performance improvements and cloud cost optimizations
- U.S. Gateway PoPs in Google Cloud to deliver the greatest user experience and the lowest latency
- Suspend/Resume virtual machines support, offering an anticipated 66% savings in cloud costs
- Google Cloud Identity support for Citrix Workspace: Because Microsoft Active Directory or Citrix Cloud Connectors are no longer required when non-domain connected installations are used, enterprises can save a lot of money with Rendezvous V2.
Citrix and Google Cloud: There’s Still More!
Even though this list is outstanding, 2022 isn’t quite through, so we’re pleased to introduce even more new tools and features to support your Citrix DaaS on Google Cloud deployments.
In this on-demand session from Google Cloud Next ’22, so many interesting announcements was presented. The most recent information and developments from Citrix and Google was discussed by Bronwyn Hastings, Head of Global ISV Partnerships and Channels at Google, and Calvin Hsu, VP of Product Management at Citrix.
Save Time and Clicks with Reduced Administration using Citrix and Google Cloud
They are aware that while installing apps and desktops, enterprises may not always have the time or the need for a comprehensive configuration interface with reduced features. Our new Quick Deploy interface for Citrix DaaS solutions hosted on Google Cloud offers admins a rapid deployment experience with little configuration, which was previously only accessible for Azure workloads.
Additionally, free Citrix-ready images for Google Cloud are now available to download through the Google Cloud Marketplace. The latest Citrix VDA is installed and ready to use with your Citrix DaaS subscription on the pre-built Windows Server 2019 image known as the Citrix-prepared Virtual Delivery Agent (VDA). In the future, we also want to provide a prepared Linux VDA image. When generating a catalog for a PoC, for instance, or when using it as a starting point to construct and configure a master image, these photos can help you save a lot of time.
Accelerated Migration Support with Consumption Packs
When it comes to IT, the saying “time is money” is certainly true. But sometimes it’s just the “money” component that can be the issue when it comes to huge IT projects and budget planning. This is especially true for on-premises to cloud migrations, which depending on the complexity of your deployment could be time-consuming processes. Even with our automation technologies, such as Image Portability Service and Citrix Provisioning Service (PVS) for Google Cloud, these transformative initiatives are usually delayed by the cost of migration planning.
For this reason, Citrix and Google Cloud have partnered up to offer businesses new Consumption Packs that are completely free to enable your on-premises migrations to Google Cloud! We can offer the following examples of support services:
- Migration Assesment: They’ll assess the different user workloads, analyze the existing health of the Citrix infrastructure, and do right-sizing exercises to transfer important workloads to Google solutions. These evaluation findings will be delivered along with a migration proposal, which will include advice on which workloads to move to Google Cloud first.
- DaaS Proof of Concept: Citrix creates a non-production DaaS setup on Google Cloud for testing using your settings and applications. A single Google Cloud Resource Location with remote access via the Citrix Workspace interface will be part of this.
- Workload Migration: Citrix helps your IT team to design and construct a functional landing zone that is ready for production. Your Citrix workloads then will be slowly changed from your data center to Google Cloud by both of us.
NEXT: Extending In-Region Support to Europe
The creation of a new Google Cloud-hosted control plane in the EU is probably one of the most interesting announcements we made at Google Cloud Next ’22! For our European customers wishing to purchase our DaaS editions for Google Cloud via the Marketplace, this is a great step.
It also plans to launch two new Gateway Service PoPs on Google Cloud in the European region by the end of the year to deliver the greatest user experience and the lowest latency with our Citrix DaaS for Google Cloud solutions. These two PoPs in the EU will complement our current network of U.S. Google Cloud gateway PoPs in South Carolina, California, and Oregon.
Innovating with Citrix and Google Cloud Partners
Along with the improvements they are making to our joint services, the partners are also coming up with new ideas to provide businesses with the greatest resources possible. It is for this reason that they are glad to announce that Citrix and Google-powered LibreSpace Hyperconnected Virtual Workspaces are being offered by our partner HCL.
“HCL LibreSpace offers an end-to-end fluid workspace-as-a-service (WaaS) solution that is secure, robust and flexible,” said Rakshit Ghura, SVP and Global Head, Digital Workplace Services at HCL. “Powered by Citrix and Google, and coupled with HCL’s market leading IPs, LibreSpace will help enterprises reach new levels of agility, resiliency, and productivity thus, transforming the workplace experience with trusted security at every point. With LibreSpace, organizations gain the backing of a synergistic partnership between three market leaders to ensure that the right solution to address today’s evolving hybrid work environment.”
Innovating for Our Customers’ Needs
Companies all over the world are embracing and adopting the game-changing solutions that Citrix DaaS on Google Cloud offers, including the largest healthcare system in New Jersey, Hackensack Meridian Health, and the largest provider of telecommunications services in Italy, Telecom Italia.
DaaS is resonating with these enterprises because it can change the way they work; it’s no more just a solution for legacy programs or a limited group of employees, as Bronwyn Hastings, Head of Global ISV Partnerships and Channels at Google, discussed at Google Cloud Next ’22. All types of users can receive a flexible, current hybrid work solution from the solution, which is already doing so. To that end, we also announced Next ’22 about our desire to establish a specially designed hybrid Rocky Linux DaaS service with Google Workspace for our engineering and developer users.
