Big Projects using PRINCE2 Agile
A “big” project is what? In the end, how big anything is depends on the size of the organization you work for, such as PRINCE2 Agile.
What relevance does the PRINCE2 Agile certification have in such a setting?
A large project, according to PRINCE2, includes the following features:
- It is complicated.
- has a greater level of uncertainty
- poses significant issues concerning the products required to produce the desired results
- typically involves several teams
- is more durable than easier, medium-sized tasks.
Large projects are usually associated with the requirement for greater levels of control and oversight by project managers, an organization’s PMO, and senior management.
Organizations typically demand greater levels of reporting and closer collaboration with the senior management team due to the amount of investment and risk involved.
So how can agile methods fit in here? Some businesses find it unsettling to consider hiring them for significant initiatives, maybe because to the uninformed, it carries a strange aspect.
However, their ears brighten up when they learn that you can get a quicker delivery. The true meaning of agile is still not well understood, though.
PRINCE2 Agile – understanding how agile you can be
How can a project manager working on a big project benefit from learning about and getting certified in PRINCE2 Agile?
Such projects will entail significant organizational changes, and they may involve IT, building, HR, hiring new employees, and making redundant workers – in other words, they will be genuinely multi-functional projects. And as a result, different delivery techniques may be used by various teams. Agile may just be the best method for some IT components.
That’s where the complication for the project manager comes, and that’s where knowledge of PRINCE2 Agile may help: it will give the project management expertise and awareness of the variety of agile delivery methodologies that teams in their business might use.
Project managers can scale their control up or down and adjust the approach to the project environment by drawing on the fact that PRINCE2 and PRINCE2 Agile can be tailored, which is now a more prominent principle of the guidance. Assisting the project manager in determining how agile the project can be, PRINCE2 Agile does not require being agile or not.
The PRINCE2 Agile Agilometer technique helps to determine the delivery strategy that each team might use. This is important because some work packages in a big project could have contracts that span a year or longer.
Since it’s unlikely that every component of a big project would be acceptable for agile delivery, PRINCE2 Agile will help practitioners integrate agile approaches when necessary.
