Introducing your copilot for the web: AI-powered Bing and Microsoft Edge - YouTube

Microsoft’s aim is to enhance the experience of exploration and creativity for people by providing better access to the world’s knowledge by using Microsoft Bing and Edge. To achieve this, they are revolutionizing the most frequently used tools on the web, the search engine and browser, to make the world more informed and enlightened.

They have introduced a cutting-edge, AI-powered Microsoft Bing and Edge search engine and browser. Currently available for preview at Bing.com, these tools offer enhanced search results, more comprehensive answers, a new chat feature, and the ability to create content. These tools are being referred to as AI-powered assistants for navigating the web.

“AI will fundamentally change every software category, starting with the largest category of all – search,” said Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO, of Microsoft. “Today, we’re launching Bing and Edge powered by AI copilot and chat, to help people get more from search and the web.”

Every day, there are ten billion searches conducted, however, it is estimated that half of them go unanswered. This is because individuals are using search engines for purposes that it was not originally intended. While it is excellent for locating websites, it tends to be inadequate for handling more complicated inquiries or tasks.

The new Microsoft Bing and Edge – Your copilot for the web

Microsoft has integrated search, browsing, and chat into a seamless experience that can be accessed from any location on the web, providing:

  • Better search: The newly launched Bing offers an improved version of the traditional search experience with more relevant results for common inquiries such as sports scores, stock prices, and weather. Additionally, there is a new sidebar that displays more detailed answers if desired.
  • Complete answer: The Bing search engine examines results from the entire web to provide the answer you seek. For instance, you can quickly find step-by-step instructions on how to replace eggs with another ingredient in a cake recipe without having to sift through multiple results pages.
  • A new chat experience: For more detailed searches, such as planning a comprehensive travel itinerary or determining which TV to purchase, the new Bing introduces an interactive chat feature. This chat experience enables you to refine your search and obtain the complete answer you are seeking by asking for additional information, clarity, and suggestions, with links readily available to take immediate action on your choices.
  • A creative spark: At times, you require an answer and inspiration. The new Bing has the capability to create content to assist you in this regard. It can assist in writing an email, planning a five-day trip to Hawaii with links to book travel and accommodation, preparing for a job interview, or even creating a trivia quiz. The new Bing also properly cites all its sources, allowing you to access the web content it refers to.
  • New Microsoft Edge experience: The Edge browser has undergone an update, incorporating new AI features and a refreshed appearance. Two new functionalities have been added, “Chat” and “Compose”. The Edge Sidebar allows you to request a summary of a lengthy financial report, obtain the key insights, and then use the chat feature to compare the report with that of a competitor and display it in a table format. The “Compose” functionality enables Edge to assist you in creating content such as a LinkedIn post by providing initial prompts. After that, it can assist in adjusting the tone, format, and length of the post. The Edge browser is capable of comprehending the web page you are on and adapting accordingly.

The new Bing not only makes exploring the web more effortless but also adds an enjoyable aspect to it. You can ask it various inquiries, such as:

“My anniversary is coming up in September, help me plan a trip somewhere fun in Europe, leaving from London.

Will the Ikea Klippan loveseat fit into my 2019 Honda Odyssey?

I like electronic music and want to go to my first festival this year. Do you have any recommendations or tips for me?”

The new Bing experience represents the culmination of four technological advancements.

  • Next-generation OpenAI model: They are excited to announce that the new Bing operates on a cutting-edge, next-generation OpenAI large language model that surpasses ChatGPT and is specially designed for search. It incorporates essential learnings and advancements from ChatGPT and GPT-3.5, making it even more efficient, precise, and capable.
  • Microsoft Prometheus model: Microsoft has devised a proprietary method of utilizing the OpenAI model, referred to as the Prometheus model, which allows us to fully harness its power. This combination of abilities and techniques results in more relevant, timely, and targeted results with enhanced security.
  • Apply AI to core search algorithm: The AI model has also been integrated into the core Bing search ranking engine, resulting in the biggest improvement in relevance in 20 years. Thanks to this AI model, even simple search queries are more accurate and relevant.
  • New user experience: They are transforming the way you engage with search, browser, and chat by combining them into a seamless experience, which will open up a brand new method of interacting with the web.

Microsoft and OpenAI have combined their efforts to bring about a revolution in the search experience by integrating search, browsing, and chat into a seamless experience. This has been made possible due to Microsoft’s dedication to transforming Azure into a global AI supercomputer and OpenAI leveraging this infrastructure to train the advanced models that are now being optimized for Bing.
