The Advantages of Online Project Management Training

Project Management Course – Build Career-Boosting Skills – FutureLearn

Since the launch of Covid-19, online project management training, including PRINCE2® and PRINCE2 Agile®, has provided students with several useful and unexpected benefits.

There had never been a substantial market for online training prior to the pandemic. People enjoyed the face-to-face classroom experience in general.

When this form of training was interrupted during the first UK lockdown in March 2020, participants’ immediate reaction was to wait for classrooms to reopen. However, some felt that there was a benefit in upskilling while on leave, for example, and so enrolled in online courses.

And they discovered that training remotely – with all the necessary tools like video programs hosting groups and breakout activities – wasn’t so dissimilar to being in a classroom. It has proven to be superior in some aspects.

People can relate to PRINCE2 Agile, in particular, because they have had to become more agile in response to the pandemic: for example, daily video conversations with their colleagues are similar to the Agile approach of daily stand-ups. Similarly, the circumstances have demonstrated the value of teamwork, as well as tactics such as timeboxing, delivering on time and under budget, and cost-cutting.

The unexpected advantages of online training

Delegates will work towards taking the exam at the end of a short course in a standard, professional training course, and exam environment.

The impending exam can put some people under strain, and as a result, they may become distracted from the most important aspect: training, learning, and application of knowledge.

Online training, on the other hand, allows people to schedule their exams up to six months after the course. In this manner, people make better use of their time for learning, and their exam grades have improved.

In reality, hosting online classes eliminates the need to travel to a training facility. Candidates are thus calmer and get more out of the sessions because they are not rushing to catch the train home. Delegates from anywhere in the world can access courses as if they were in person, and people with children can handle school drop-off and other everyday duties without losing out on training time.

There will always be supporters of classroom training, and it will not go away, but we believe that online courses will become the latest trend.

Bringing PRINCE2 and PRINCE2 Agile theory to life

Because the epidemic has generated many new, personal, and corporate projects, the ideas in PRINCE2 and PRINCE2 Agile have become much more real. Domestic examples, such as planting a vegetable garden or landscaping a garden, aid delegates in understanding best practice project management concepts.

In one case, we requested a delegate to demonstrate how to apply PRINCE2’s seven principles to home vegetable gardening. When we started looking at each premise, it was like a light bulb went off. He was essentially developing a business case and learning from experience by talking about the benefits and detailing how he’d helped his parents when he was younger.

As the project progressed, he maintained an eye on the cost and timeframe while adhering to the initial scope (which vegetables to grow). He was now exhibiting an emphasis on items and parts of management by stages, with a plan for when to pot certain produce. He was also managing by exception, making light of the fact that his partner had to water the plants at specified times or notify him if she had forgotten!

In terms of defined roles and responsibilities, he considered himself the major decision-maker and expert, sounding very much like the CEO and senior supplier, while his spouse was the senior user when it came to selecting certain fruits and vegetables.

Finally, because they began their endeavor with a structure in mind – writing down specific things and recording information – they had unknowingly adopted the process.

The future of training

While classroom training will restart, users will also want the opportunity to log in remotely.

Training organizations would be expected to provide blended learning for both face-to-face and online learners, effectively practicing what we preach about improved agility.

For those who are still unsure about remote training and learning:

  • Requesting a demonstration from a training provider so that you may feel how it feels.
  • Requesting a trial run of the system before committing to a course.

Technology is making it easy to replicate and even improve the classroom atmosphere, allowing delegates to interact, learn, take exams, and get certificates more successfully than ever before.
