By displaying the workload, Kanban in projects is a straightforward and direct technique to assist teams to boost their job productivity. It’s a tool that should be in every project manager’s toolkit, especially in less complex situations, because it’s part of the guidelines given in PRINCE2 Agile.
Kanban, which was originally created to improve production efficiency, is now more commonly used to display project tasks on a board with sticky notes. This makes planning easier and more accessible to everyone.
This is especially true for non-professional project managers who struggle to use a timetable as a day-to-day project management tool. Kanban makes planning so easy that everyone uses it!
Being PMO heads, They advise professional project managers to utilize Kanban to visualize the project plan and, if practical, to switch between that and their schedule view. The Kanban approach focuses on what individuals are doing, which simplifies understanding everyone’s workload and helps in task prioritization.
The name “Kanban” can be a problem for some people. However, as they get the concept and begin to apply it, they realize how valuable it is, and Kanban becomes part of the language and ways of working. We wanted a modest test project, but it just wasn’t occurring for whatever reason. There was absolutely no sense of urgency in the team.
So we used sticky notes to construct a Kanban view on a whiteboard in the office, and it made a significant difference. The task schedule became a reality, and the project gained pace; team members were able to keep track of whether tasks were performed or not, which boosted ownership. People became more accountable as a result of the project tasks becoming visible, physical, present, and understood.
Why do you believe it is important to understand Kanban and other lean/agile concepts in PRINCE2 Agile?
Project managers need to employ these techniques since the tools relate to traditional project management controls, assist teams in increasing communication, and bring people together. Teams that communicate well are more effective.
When project managers are unable to communicate with the entire team, they may resort to controlling and ticking all of the project management boxes. Kanban assists them in becoming better communicators.
Overall, this is about people organizing themselves and their actions more effectively to move projects forward by focusing on the important things rather than attempting to complete everything at once.
