Why is it important to own a book that contains qualified, best practice guidance?
Managing projects before the existence of project management systems such as PRINCE2 was like being lost in a forest without a map. You took project management training courses of variable quality and perspective at the time, and you requested advice from colleagues, who delivered a mixed bag of responses and personal bias. There are so many situations to manage in projects (and programs) that you’re unlikely to remember the details from your training. With the book, you have a place to go to get the best practice advice. Returning to it, utilizing it, and sharing the knowledge with others indicates that you engage with the content beyond your training, and it becomes part of your long-term memory and something you actively utilize. As a result, both the individual and the organization for which they work begin to realize the value and tangible effects of the training they have invested in.

While there are beneficial internet resources such as blogs that provide ideas and guidance on best practices, online searchers must be aware of – and filter – the different quality and accuracy of the information they may obtain. There is no shortage of distorted perspectives on many sorts of best practices, which are usually founded on a biased attitude.
Having and referring to a best practice book as your source material provides a single source of truth. Also, having access to a book during your training allows you to add your notes and clarifications, personalizing the book to you and your learning path.
